Bob has worked inside non-profit organizations, corporations and communications agencies. His agency career includes: Global public relations firm Weber Shandwick (Executive Vice President of Corporate Relations); marketing communications agency Nicholson Kovac (Senior Vice President, Public Relations); and his own firm. Prior to joining the agency world, Bob worked in public relations inside corporations, including Communications Director positions at Control Data Corporation, The Pillsbury Company and Green Giant Co. He also was communications director and lobbyist for an agricultural organization.
He has multiple community service roles. He is Board Chair of Ampact, an AmeriCorps non-profit which delivers the Minnesota Reading Corps and Minnesota Math Corps to more than 45,000 elementary and pre-school students -- primarily in Minnesota, plus a dozen additional states. He is a volunteer tutor with Reading Partners, another AmeriCorps organization. For Backpack, a student-run communications agency within the University of Minnesota's Hubbard School of Journalism and Mass Communications, he is chair of the professional Board of Advisors. He serves as a mentor to University students.
He is a University of Minnesota School of Journalism alumnus, was named an Alumnus of Notable Achievement by the University’s College of Liberal Arts and is winner of the Silver Anvil of the Public Relations Society of America for his crisis communications work.
